Missile Crisis Averted: India Downs Inbound Strikes, Hits Pakistan’s Launch Sites

New Delhi, May 8, 2025 — India has averted a potential national catastrophe after successfully intercepting a barrage of Pakistani missiles directed at 15 strategic cities. In a retaliatory campaign, Indian forces then struck and destroyed multiple Pakistani missile launch sites and air defence installations.

The crisis began when Pakistani forces reportedly launched nearly two dozen projectiles in a near-simultaneous pattern — a tactic meant to overwhelm defence systems. Indian radar picked up the incoming threats seconds after launch, allowing air defence operators to initiate full-spectrum interception.

India’s missile defence batteries deployed across northern and western sectors brought down every missile mid-flight. Drones and reconnaissance satellites later confirmed no projectile penetrated Indian urban limits.

The Indian Air Force responded with Operation Trikala, an aggressive campaign involving Rafale and Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft, backed by electronic warfare planes. The operation’s focus was the destruction of missile launch zones in Pakistan’s Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan regions, along with radar installations critical to Pakistani missile command.

Aerial footage released by the Indian Defence Ministry shows large-scale secondary explosions, indicating the presence of stored munitions and fuel tanks at the destroyed sites. Pakistan claims only minimal damage and disputes India’s assertion that it initiated hostilities.

India, however, presented intercepted communications and satellite imagery in a press conference to back its claims. “The world has seen the evidence. This was a direct act of aggression. Our defence forces acted to prevent disaster,” stated Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

Global powers including Russia and Japan have issued statements of concern, calling for immediate dialogue. The United Nations Security Council has called an emergency session to assess the situation.

At home, India’s swift and decisive defence has been hailed as one of the military’s finest hours — not just for its effectiveness but for preventing civilian loss during what could have been one of the most destructive missile attacks in the subcontinent’s history.
