A tragic incident in Delhi’s GTB Enclave has led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man, Rizwan, who allegedly murdered a 20-year-old woman in a fit of jealous rage. According to Delhi Police, the two had developed a relationship over the past few months, and Rizwan became consumed with jealousy after seeing her talking to another man.

Rizwan, who worked as a welder at a construction site, first encountered the woman two to three months ago. After finding her social media profile, the two began communicating frequently over calls and texts. Police said Rizwan, a Class 9 dropout, struggled with understanding the woman’s written messages and relied heavily on Google Translate to respond appropriately. Despite this, a bond developed between them, and they continued their friendship.

However, the situation took a violent turn when Rizwan saw the woman talking to another man at an abandoned structure. Furious, he demanded she sever ties with the man, but she refused. His jealousy quickly escalated into a murderous obsession.

On Monday evening, around 8 p.m., Rizwan contacted the woman and arranged to meet her at Kodia Colony Gate in GTB Enclave, Shahdara. Police said that once they met, Rizwan once again asked her to stop communicating with the other man. When she refused, Rizwan pulled out a pistol and shot her twice in the head and chest, killing her on the spot. He then fled the scene.

Following the murder, Rizwan disappeared, and police launched a manhunt to capture him. CCTV footage from the crime scene showed a young man walking with the victim shortly before the murder, which helped investigators identify Rizwan. His sudden absence from his home and social circle led police to circulate his details among their network of informants. A tip-off eventually led officers to an eatery in Karnal, Haryana, where Rizwan had been hiding.

“Rizwan was found wearing the same clothes he had worn during the crime, which were clearly visible in the CCTV footage from the night of the murder,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Sain.

During questioning, Rizwan reportedly confessed to the murder, explaining that he had first encountered the woman while working at the construction site. After finding her social media profile, the two began talking, and their relationship deepened over time. However, when he saw her with another man, tension built between them. The woman reportedly refused to cut contact with the man, which led Rizwan to feel betrayed. Consumed by jealousy, he decided to kill her.

Police also revealed that two days before the murder, Rizwan obtained a country-made pistol and ammunition through a friend, preparing for the crime. On the evening of the murder, after drinking, Rizwan met the woman, and they walked for a while before discussing her relationship with the other man. When she refused to break off contact with him, Rizwan shot her twice before hiding the weapon with a friend and fleeing the city.

Rizwan’s background sheds light on his troubled upbringing. He comes from a lower-middle-class family and faced financial difficulties, which led him to drop out of school after Class 9. To support his family, he took up welding as a profession. Despite his challenges, he was able to engage in online conversations with the woman, using Google Translate to understand and respond to her messages.

The police also clarified that the murder was not connected to an earlier case from November of the previous year, in which a man was killed for intervening when two men harassed the woman. Those two men were later arrested in that case.

The arrest of Rizwan has brought an end to the tragic story of a young woman whose life was cut short by a fit of jealous rage. As police continue their investigation, Rizwan faces serious charges, and the victim’s family is left grappling with the loss of a loved one taken far too soon.
