Delhi Police have apprehended four people, including three juveniles, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl whose decomposed body was found in a field in Swaroop Nagar.
The case began when residents informed police about a body lying near Kushak Road on September 13. The remains were reportedly in an advanced stage of decomposition. Police said some parts had been eaten by stray dogs and one hand was found separated from the body.
Investigators said the body was initially so badly decomposed that they could not immediately determine the victim’s gender. Following identification and medical examination, police said the deceased was a teenage girl and that she had been sexually assaulted.
Police also reported multiple stab wounds. The authorities suspect that the alleged crime took place around September 11 and that the body was subsequently abandoned in the field.
The girl allegedly knew the people now in custody. Police said she had travelled with them in a tempo. Investigators are examining the events that occurred during and after that journey.
A major breakthrough came through CCTV footage. Police teams examined more than 50 cameras covering the suspected area and nearby roads.
Investigators noticed a tempo moving near the field at a relevant time. The vehicle’s registration number could not initially be read clearly because of darkness. Officers therefore followed the vehicle through footage from different locations.
The tempo was eventually traced to Khadda Colony. Police identified and questioned its driver. According to investigators, information obtained during questioning helped lead them to three additional suspects.
The four people apprehended include an adult accused identified by police as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu and three juveniles aged 16 and 17.
Police said they recovered two knives allegedly used in the killing, clothing reportedly worn by the suspects and the tempo connected with the investigation.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. Because three suspects are minors, their legal proceedings will be governed by the applicable juvenile-justice framework.
Police have not yet concluded the investigation. Forensic analysis, CCTV evidence and other technical material are being examined to establish the precise sequence of events.
Investigators are also trying to determine the individual role of each suspect. Any additional involvement will depend on evidence gathered during the continuing investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body have made the case particularly serious, but the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
The police investigation is expected to focus on establishing when and where the assault occurred, how the victim died, how her body was transported to the field and whether anyone else assisted in the alleged crime.
