On May 9, 2025, Delhi will conduct a major civil defence drill aimed at testing the city’s preparedness in the event of an air raid or other emergency. This mock exercise will involve the activation of air raid sirens across the city at 4:00 PM, followed by a series of simulated emergency procedures to assess the readiness of both the public and government authorities.
The drill will take place across 11 districts, with personnel from various agencies, including the Delhi Police, Fire Services, and Disaster Management, coordinating efforts to manage the situation. The exercise will test the public’s ability to respond to the sirens, follow evacuation orders, and seek shelter in designated safe zones.
This civil defence drill will also involve a series of simulated medical emergencies, including triaging victims, providing first aid, and evacuating injured people. It will assess the city’s ability to respond to mass casualties and ensure that medical teams can operate under pressure.
Authorities are keen on testing the efficiency of the communication systems in place to disseminate information to the public. The drill will examine how effectively residents can be alerted to the emergency and informed about the necessary actions to take. It will also serve as an opportunity to test the coordination between various agencies, ensuring that resources are deployed where they are most needed during an actual emergency.
These drills are crucial for maintaining a high level of preparedness in cities like Delhi, which are prime targets for potential threats due to their large population and strategic significance. The government hopes that by regularly conducting such exercises, the public will be better equipped to handle emergencies when they arise, reducing panic and improving overall safety.
