A catastrophic fire erupted at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC) in Pitampura, Delhi, engulfing the library and causing extensive damage to its infrastructure and resources. The blaze, which began around 8:55 AM, rapidly spread across all four floors of the four-story library building. Firefighters from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) responded promptly, deploying multiple fire tenders to the scene. Despite their efforts, the fire resulted in the destruction of a significant portion of the library’s collection, including over 55,000 books, numerous journals, and digital resources.
The library, established in 1984, serves as a central hub for students and faculty, housing a vast collection of academic materials and providing a space for research and study. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures in educational institutions and the adequacy of infrastructure to prevent such disasters.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting a possible electrical fault. No casualties have been reported, but the incident has disrupted academic activities and highlighted the need for stringent fire safety protocols in educational institutions.
