Union Home Minister Amit Shah has vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the deadly terrorist attack on Hindu tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a high-profile event in Delhi, Shah condemned the assault and pledged that the perpetrators would be hunted down and held accountable.
The attack, which occurred on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The assailants reportedly segregated and targeted Hindu tourists at Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam. The incident has been described as one of the most devastating attacks in the region in recent memory.
In response to the attack, the Indian government has taken several punitive measures against Pakistan, which it accuses of supporting cross-border terrorism. These measures include suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani diplomats, and closing the Attari-Wagah border. Additionally, India has canceled visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme and ordered Pakistani nationals to leave the country within 48 hours.
The attack has also led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Pakistan has denied involvement and called for a neutral investigation. However, India maintains that the assailants were supported by elements within Pakistan.
In the wake of the attack, the Indian government convened an all-party meeting to discuss the situation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting, which was addressed by Home Minister Amit Shah. The government also briefed President Droupadi Murmu and foreign diplomats on the steps being taken in response to the attack.
The Pahalgam attack has not only resulted in loss of life but has also disrupted the tourism industry in Kashmir. In response, the Indian government has closed over half of the tourist spots in the region and increased security at the remaining locations.
As the investigation continues, the Indian government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and holding those responsible for the attack accountable.
