Gurgaon’s road network is set for a major revamp as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) announces a ₹50-crore initiative to transform three key roads into state-of-the-art “model roads” by March 2026. The project aims to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and overall city aesthetics, making daily commutes smoother for residents and commuters alike.
The three roads selected for this phase are MG Road (from IFFCO Chowk to the start of Golf Course Road), Hamilton Court Road, and Vyapar Kendra Road. Officials said these stretches were chosen after a detailed review by GMDA, led by CEO P.C. Meena, to set benchmarks for future urban road projects across Gurgaon.
Under the makeover plan, each road will feature wider footpaths, dedicated lanes for cyclists, enhanced street lighting, and modern traffic management systems. The project will also incorporate smart surveillance tools, including CCTV cameras linked to automated e-challan systems, to enforce traffic rules efficiently and reduce human intervention. These upgrades are expected to improve both safety and traffic discipline.
A key focus of the model road initiative is to make Gurgaon streets more pedestrian-friendly. Shaded walkways, dedicated cycling tracks, and clearly marked pedestrian crossings will encourage walking and cycling as viable transport options, helping reduce congestion during peak hours.
The ₹50-crore project is part of GMDA’s larger vision to modernize Gurgaon’s infrastructure. Future phases are expected to include additional corridors, such as Atul Kataria Chowk to Sector 29, Rajeev Chowk to Mayfield Garden (Medanta Road), and Hero Honda Chowk to Sector 29, all identified for potential upgrades to meet modern urban standards.
Residents have long raised concerns about the condition of Gurgaon’s roads, citing potholes, poor drainage, and unsafe conditions during the rainy season. This model road initiative aims to address these issues comprehensively, setting a benchmark for high-quality road infrastructure in the region.
In addition to road resurfacing, authorities are planning service road improvements, expanded footpaths, and better connectivity across busy sectors, complementing the main model road project. These measures aim to ensure smoother traffic flow, safer commuting, and a more organized urban environment.
Work on the selected roads is expected to be completed by the end of March, allowing commuters to experience a noticeable improvement in travel conditions. With modern design, smart enforcement, and pedestrian-friendly amenities, Gurgaon’s model roads are poised to become a reference point for urban road development in the Delhi NCR region.
