Fresh health concerns have surfaced regarding Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan after his legal team revealed a serious deterioration in his eyesight. According to his lawyer, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder has retained only 15% vision in his right eye, triggering alarm among supporters, political allies, and family members.
The disclosure has intensified scrutiny over Khan’s medical condition and the quality of healthcare being provided during his imprisonment.
Blood Clot Linked to Vision Loss
Khan’s counsel stated that the partial loss of eyesight is the result of a blood clot in the right eye, which allegedly caused significant internal damage. The condition reportedly worsened over time before specialised medical intervention was administered.
Although treatment — including expert consultation and an injection — was eventually arranged, the damage appears to have been largely irreversible. His legal representatives argue that earlier diagnosis and prompt specialist care might have prevented such severe vision impairment.

A key concern raised by Khan’s legal team relates to what they describe as delayed and inadequate medical attention in prison. For months, treatment was allegedly limited to routine eye drops despite persistent complaints of blurred vision and discomfort.
Requests for comprehensive eye examinations, diagnostic scans, and specialist referrals were reportedly made but not addressed swiftly. The defence maintains that, given Khan’s age and medical sensitivity, a proactive healthcare approach should have been followed.
Emotional and Physical Distress
During recent legal consultations, Khan was said to be visibly troubled by his worsening eyesight. His lawyer noted signs of physical discomfort, including persistent irritation and watery eyes.
Beyond the physical symptoms, the vision loss has also taken an emotional toll. Concerns about long-term damage and overall health have reportedly caused psychological strain for the former Prime Minister.
Court Intervention and Medical Evaluation
The matter has now reached judicial attention. Courts have taken cognisance of the health claims and signalled the formation of an independent medical board to evaluate Khan’s condition.
