As the United States contemplates raising tariffs on Indian goods, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured that the Indian government is intensifying its efforts to support exporters. The move could potentially disrupt industries such as textiles, steel, and automotive parts, which are critical to India’s export economy.
To counter the negative impact, Sitharaman emphasized that the government is looking into various protective measures, including the provision of export subsidies, financial aid for vulnerable industries, and assistance in navigating new trade routes. India is also engaging in multilateral talks to defend its trade interests and ensure that the tariffs imposed by the US are fair and justifiable under international trade norms.
