Authorities in Mumbai confirmed that bomb threat calls received for both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on July 25, 2025, turned out to be false. Police responded swiftly, carrying out full security checks before confirming there was no real danger. Investigations revealed the calls were made by the same individual.
Threat Call at Mumbai Airport Triggers Swift Security Response
The first threat came in around 3:00 PM, warning of a potential bomb at Terminal 2 of Mumbai’s international airport. In response, airport security and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were deployed immediately. The entire terminal area was searched with the help of sniffer dogs and specialized teams. Later, another threat came in, claiming a bomb would go off at 6:15 PM, but again, nothing suspicious was found.
Authorities quickly determined that both airport threats were baseless. Normal operations resumed after the security clearance.
CSMT Also Targeted in Coordinated Threat
Around the same time, Mumbai’s railway police control room received a similar threat claiming a bomb had been planted at CSMT, one of the city’s busiest railway hubs. As with the airport, the BDDS and police teams carried out an intensive search of the station.
Following the operation, police confirmed that the CSMT threat was also a hoax, and no explosives or suspicious objects were discovered.
Same Caller Behind Both Threats
During the investigation, police confirmed that both calls were traced back to the same person. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code equivalent), and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the caller.
Officials are currently investigating the motive behind the threats and working to identify whether the individual acted alone or with others.
Pattern of Fake Threats Raises Concerns
This incident is not isolated. Mumbai and other parts of India have witnessed a rise in fake bomb threats in recent months. In one such case earlier this year, a 35-year-old man from the suburbs was arrested for making a similar threat to the airport. He was later released after being booked for criminal intimidation, with police citing personal reasons for his actions.
There have also been email threats sent to high-profile locations, such as luxury hotels and public spaces, all of which were later confirmed as hoaxes.
Emergency Protocols Ensured Public Safety
Despite these recent hoaxes, the city’s security apparatus remains on high alert. Every bomb threat, regardless of its credibility, triggers full emergency procedures. Rapid response units, canine teams, and bomb squads are mobilized immediately to ensure public safety.
Authorities emphasize that the zero-tolerance policy toward such threats will continue and those found guilty will face legal consequences.
Officials Urge Public to Remain Calm but Vigilant
Mumbai Police praised the coordinated efforts of their teams and security agencies in handling the situation quickly and effectively. While there was no real threat, the incident served as a reminder of the importance of remaining alert and reporting suspicious activities.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement is committed to ensuring accountability and preventing the misuse of emergency services.
Conclusion
The false bomb threats targeting Mumbai’s key transport hubs disrupted daily operations but ultimately showcased the efficiency and preparedness of local authorities. With legal action underway, officials hope to deter future prank calls and maintain public trust in the city’s emergency response system.
